Global Amigos are chuffed to have welcomed two local college students this February as part of a work experience placement organised through Preston’s College.
The scheme will see 18 year old Cora and 20 year old Izzy spend a week working alongside key figures and partners within our city centre social enterprise. After the week is up, they will each then spend approximately one day a week continuing their support until they break for summer.
Their induction saw them meet management figures within our own enterprise as well as leading community figures and partners; such as Russell Hogarth of the Creative Communities Group at UCLan. Given the broad nature of the work we do as an umbrella organisation, a variety of options were presented to the confident young women and, by the end of the induction, they’d chosen to focus on developing our flagship project, Podio Magazine.
By the second day the Media and Photography students were interviewing, photographing and working on an article for a local entrepreneur and her friend who has launched a petition for the UK Government (Read more here; be sure to verify your email if you sign it)
“I’m loving it already,” Izzy reveals, “I love photography, and within my second day I’ve been able to get creative and see how the industry works!’
We’re expecting a lot of output from these two over the coming months and we can’t wait to see our social media presence increase as a result. They’ve been superstars already – and we can’t thank them enough. Watch this space.
