Welcome to our Lancashire-based but internationally inspired, social enterprise.

Global Amigos is the umbrella company comprising several North West-based activities that benefit from over a dozen fabulous volunteers. We receive zero funding; all monies are generated through commercial activities which we then apply to good use.

We’re on an ever-evolving journey but all share similar passions

“The last few years have been spent linking with & learning from communities from around the globe – as well as within our own neighbourhoods. Whilst continuing to build our UK projects, the ultimate vision is to create our own sustainable community hub in Nicargua; to create opportunities for people, friends, in the community that welcomed me so whole heartedly in the past, and also to welcome members of the international community who may wish to experience real rural life in a developing nation. We’ll continue to promote other worthwhile programmes such as Chennai Challenge (volunteering in India during the summer) and International Citizenship Service (three month placements globally)  Long term, our UK based activities will be self sustainable, coordinated by leaders from within. We always welcome opportunities for collaboration & will always, happily, provide a platform for other inspiring and community-engaging projects

Plans for 2018

  • Army of Amigos – the Bigger Picture

From Armenia & South Africa to the Indian slums, our founder, Andy has set out a plan to give back – and wants to encourage others to be part of the bigger picture (and to debate about who should give a damn). He just needs an Army of Amigos. *Look out for our upcoming dedicated Facebook group, and the official Global Amigos launch event, taking place in Ham & Jam Coffee Shop this September*

  • Podio Preston to branch off as a Community Interest Company

Our flagship pocket-sized publication will continue to expand with our most dedicated volunteers from the past 18 months now Directors of a newly formed Community Interest Company. ‘Positively Preston CIC’ means that, when Andy moves out to Thailand, the wider Preston community can continue to be served with local activists, creatives & organisations continuing to use the magazine as their platform.

  • Dirrty Harry’s – up for sale

Dirrty H offered decent, safe & affordable club nights for Lancashire’s LGBT community, including Pride after-parties. Due to a change in circumstances of those who led this strand of our work, these are on hold. Branding, website & socials are available for purchase should a venue owner be interested? If not, ad hoc events will likely still pop up with tags for sharing still welcome on Social Media.

  • After Hate Outreach Work

What started as an add on to Dirrty Harry’s to signpost our LGBT+ customers who were being affected by hate in Preston, is continuing to evolve into an even broader platform from which to campaign. A float in Manchester Pride, a satellite group at Exeter University, engaging stalls at the UK’s eight biggest Pride events, and support for a hate crime in schools programme are just a few of our 2018 activities.

  • Learn from our Big Preston Raffle 2017 trial

2017 saw the launch of a potentially annual raffle – with beneficiaries selected in advance & prizes donated by Preston businesses. Problems were identified which, should the raffle be replicated this year, we’ll definitely have learnt from. **We require a part time volunteer coordinator in order for the Big Preston Raffle 2018 to take place. Interested? Get in touch! Expenses paid plus it’s a beauty!**
