What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

We try not to ecourage comments but, if / when visitors do leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. (The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.) After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Again, this isn’t something Global Amigos encourage nor is it a platform we plan to provide but, if you were to upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Personal data captured when you submit a contact form is limited to a name (you’re free to use an alias) and an email address (necessary for us to respond to your enquiry).  Data captured will be stored for as long as you remain a customer / volunteer / partner. Our email accounts are cleansed every six months so, should no further action be taken once you submit a contact form, the details disclosed in your initial enquiry will automatcially be erased within this time. We never use information submitted for marketing purposes and will only make contact with reference to the initial enquiry.

An auto response goes out after every email we receive, which invites people to opt in for email updates from Global Amigos.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Google also collect cookies. To learn why and what they do with them, visit https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.

Other plugins, which we may add on to Global Amigos’ website in due course, may or may not also use cookies. We aim to keep this section as up to date as possible and, when financially / physically able to do so, reserve the right to add further sections and links here; some potentially in hindsight.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Google Analytics allow us, and most websites around the world, to track user habits online like seeing which pages a visitor moves on to after initially landing on the site, and which they leave the site from. Global Amigos have no interest in anything other than seeing these patterns. Google’s full Privacy Policy can be found at https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en-GB&gl=uk

Who we share your data with

Depending on the relationship you have with us, some of your data may be uploaded to and therefore shared with cloud based platforms such as Google Drive and Dropbox. Where payments are made using Paypal, Paypal also then becomes aware of certain elements of your data. Our accountants, Together We Balance and our web developers may also have access to some information. Again, this is dependent on the relationship you have with us and what engagements take place. Privacy policies for all of the above third parties can be found on their respective websites or by contacting them.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where financial transactions have occured, the aplicable data may be stored virtually or physically for a period of up to 6 years for accounting & legal purposes. These will be stored securely via our accountants, Together We Balance ltd.

Where enquirers make contact via the website, and where enquirers make contact via email, email address and initial contact forms will usually be stored for 6 months before being automatically deleted. Where individuals opt in to receive Global Amigos updates via email, SMS or otherwise, the contact information will be stored indefinitely; until the subscriber chooses to unsubscribe.

What rights you have over your data

If you have a log in account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. The administrative fee applied to this is £10. Information will not be released until payment is made into the Global Amigos bank account. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you free of charge (This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes)

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Our web hosting and cloud storage systems all operate from the EU and adhere to EU regulations. Data captured by third parties remains their property. Global Amigos does not sell data to third parties (unless it would be explicitely detailed within any sign up / opt in process)

Your contact information
